The new Center for Excellence in Engineering and Technology (CEET) is Oregon Institute of Technology’s epicenter for developing the most skilled professional engineering workforce in the region. On Oregon Tech’s main campus in Klamath Falls, the 70,000 SF CEET provides state-of-the-art, highly flexible interactive learning spaces, teaching labs, maker space and offices that can adapt over time to current and evolving data-driven pedagogies that support student success.
After internal assessments, it was clear that Oregon Tech needed more flexible active learning spaces that allow the instructor and students to easily configure the furniture and technologies to support a wide variety of learning activities. Serendipitously, Hyphn client Dr. Sharon Beaudry, Oregon Tech Associate Professor of Management, had served as a Steelcase Education Fellow. She helped the project team apply research she conducted that identified factors required to successfully scale active learning classrooms at all levels of education. Working closely with Dr. Beaudry, Hyphn’s furniture design team created dynamic and collaborative spaces that incorporate active learning pedagogies. Even in the midst of global logistical issues, Hyphn delivered the project on-time to meet occupancy goals.
“Not only do students come to enjoy class in the building, they stay to meet and collaborate with their friends. It’s an inspiring space for students. We can literally witness how this building is supporting student success each and every day,” said Dr. Beaudry.

The CEET was recently featured in a study published by the Journal for Advancing Business Education.
