Oregon Institute of Technology, CEET

Objectives & Scope

  • Create flexible active learning environments
  • Support student success through intentional space planning
  • Provide a variety of collaborative and instructional spaces
  • Integrate furniture and technology that adapt to evolving pedagogies

Approach

Hyphn partnered closely with Oregon Tech and Dr. Sharon Beaudry—an Oregon Tech professor and former Steelcase Education Fellow—to apply research-based strategies for scaling active learning environments. Hyphn’s furniture design team developed adaptable layouts and technology-enabled spaces that support hands-on learning, collaboration, and instructional flexibility. Despite global supply chain challenges, Hyphn delivered the project on schedule.

Outcomes & Impact

The CEET now provides a vibrant, student-centered environment where active learning thrives. Flexible furnishings and integrated technologies allow instructors to shift between teaching styles with ease, while students use the space not only for class but to gather, collaborate, and engage beyond scheduled instruction. The facility has garnered recognition, including publication in the Journal for Advancing Business Education.

“Not only do students come to enjoy class in the building, they stay to meet and collaborate with their friends. It’s an inspiring space for students. We can literally witness how this building is supporting student success each and every day.”
