University of San Diego, Knauss School of Business

Objectives & Scope

  • Consolidate six disparate buildings into a single, centralized hub
  • Support modern pedagogy, analytics-focused programs, and active learning
  • Create flexible, reconfigurable spaces for multiple user groups
  • Integrate technology to support collaboration and innovation
  • Design spaces that embody USD’s core institutional values

Approach

Hyphn approached the project with flexibility as a guiding principle, particularly as planning and execution occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic. Working closely with the University, the team developed adaptable solutions that could respond to uncertainty while supporting new academic programs, including the launch of San Diego’s first comprehensive undergraduate Business Analytics major. Each space was thoughtfully designed to balance collaboration, technology integration, and future adaptability.

Outcomes & Impact

The new Knauss School of Business now serves as a central hub for innovation, collaboration, and experiential learning on campus. Nearly tripling the school’s previous footprint, the building supports a wide range of learning styles and user needs, positioning USD as a leader in forward-thinking business education.
